Coyote Vs. Acme 2026 film

This review contains spoilers.

It was depressing when this got shelved three years ago and I’m glad it finally got distributed. This movie’s mere existence is a good thing. The actual movie itself is fine. It has a great concept and a ton of funny moments that are held back by mediocre direction. It feels like it could’ve been made by anyone. I also wish the animation wasn’t 3D. It was 2D for some characters (Bugs Bunny, Porky) but Wiley, the granny, Tweety, etc. look off. There’s also a lot of inaccuracies with the legal process, which isn’t really a problem with the movie itself but more of a missed opportunity. It would’ve been more funny if this movie was a realistic legal drama that had Looney Tunes characters in it. Glad this movie came out but it’s kind of disappointing given how hyped it was. They also played “I Fought The Law” at the end when they should’ve played “Roadrunner.”

Home Movies 1999 show

This review contains spoilers.

The actors for this show recorded their dialogue together and frequently improvised, leading to dialogue that feels more natural than shows like Smiling Friends even. It was also the very first Adult Swim show, you can definitely feel this its influence on their other programming. It’s a funny, chill show with good vibes and characters.

Barry Lyndon 1975 film

This review contains spoilers.

Stanley Kubrick’s take on period dramas is much more engaging than other movies from the genre. Like most of his other movies it is executed with perfection. The pacing, the atmosphere, the classical and folk music, the acting, and the painting-like shots grip you all the way through. It’s three hours long but it never feels boring because it’s either hypnotic or intense. My only issues are that some of the war scenes drag on too long for me, and occasionally the music and narration feel unnecessary. Not as good as The Shining or 2001 but still a great time that shows even the most boring genres of movies can be interesting under the right director.

Surfer Rosa 1988 album

This review contains spoilers.

You can hear the influence this had on Nirvana on almost every track. The dark and abstract lyrics, the unique chord progressions and time signatures, the out of tune vocals and distorted guitars, the “quiet-loud-quiet” structures, this album paved the way for not just Nirvana but alternative rock as a whole. “Where Is My Mind?” and “Gigantic” are catchy melodically, but other songs like “River Euphrates” and “Break My Body” are catchy structurally and sonically. I much prefer the first half of this album to the second half, although that might change after a few re-listens. Good album that I’d say I appreciate more than I like.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1975 film

This review contains spoilers.

Not quite the masterpiece I thought it was when I first saw it at Keith’s, but I still really enjoy it. Zero budget, a few castles, and a vision. It’s basically a bunch of British comedy skits loosely tied together with the plot of searching for the Holy Grail. It does not care about telling a good story in the slightest, it’s entirely focused on jokes. The jokes often have long build ups but they usually pay off. Even when a joke isn’t funny I can still appreciate it because of how silly and careless it feels. Nothing on screen looks convincing but that honestly enhances the comedy, it’s way funnier to have the Black Knight leak obviously fake blood as opposed to realistic blood. The shots in this movie look pretty good, nothing amazing but it shows an amount of care that many comedy movies lack. The music is also very good, which again just shows care put into this movie. The scene where the knights saves the prince is an all-timer.

Knife In The Water 1962 film

This review contains spoilers.

Wasn’t sure about this in the first half but as the movie went on it became more and more clear what it was going for. It’s definitely a slow burn but it’s worth it in the end. Seems like the type of movie that gets better on a rewatch.

Brothers in Arms 1985 album

The first 4 songs on this album absolutely carry. However the middle isn’t even bad it just can’t live up to the beginning which contains some of the best rock songs of all time. Strong album all the way through

Atom Heart Mother 1970 album

This review contains spoilers.

Listened to atom heart mother because of how long the title track is. After hearing the absolute majesty of the title track I needed to hear the rest of it. I was surprised to find a bunch of pleasant acoustic songs. Even the last song which is definitely the most experimental is pretty strong. Not sure why this album is seen so poorly by fans and the band itself

A Dream Is All We Know 2024 album

This review contains spoilers.

60’s pop rock was cool but it’s time to move on and innovate. I would love to hear an album that combines the sensibilities of the Beach Boys with modern tech, but unfortunately this album is too stuck in the past.
